Othniel Goes To War

So the Obscure Biblical Character is... Othniel, son of Kenaz, (Caleb's younger brother).

Judges 3:10, King James Version (http://www.bible.com/)
And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.

Notice the progression of Othniel's life here: the Spirit of God came upon him, he judged(ruled over) Israel, he went to war, and God delivered Chushanrishathaim (say that three times fast!) into his hand. Before anything else happened, he started a relationship with God, and then he started his reign.

Then here's the part I wanted to focus on today: he went to war, and God delivered Chushie into his hand. God didn't just strike the Mesopotamians down where they stood while the Israelites hid in the city. They had to go to war. They had to do something, and then God brought them the results. But God's not going to do all the work for us.

So the next Obscure Biblical Character (ending June 30th) is:
-had "great faith"
-asked Jesus to heal his servant, but
-didn't think he was worthy to have Jesus in his house

In His Service,

Response Question: Why does it say 'judged'? What does this mean?
