Follow the Word

Nehemiah 13:1-3
On that day they read from the Book of Moses in the hearing of the people, and in it was found written that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever come into the assembly of God, because they had not met the children of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them. However, our God turned the curse into the blessing. So it was, when they had heard the Law, that they separated all the multitude from Israel.

Happy Random Chapter Day!

Nehemiah is one of my favorite books of the Bible. In this verse, the people were dedicating the wall they built around their city for protection, and they were reading the Book of Moses (similar to us reading Bible verses at the begining of something huge).

They learned that Ammonites and Moabites weren't supposed to be with them in the assembly of God. What was their immediate reaction?

To follow God. When they heard this law, they separated the Ammonites and Moabites from themselves.

What does this have to do with us? When we hear a commandment of God that goes against something you're doing, stop it! Change your ways! We all do this from time to time, daily for a lot of us (cough, cough, me).

Response Question (for comments section): Confession time. What's one thing that God is convicting you of that you know you need to change your ways about? I'll go first: unloving words and actions toward my brother. Anybody else?

In His Service,
Joyce
