I'm A Real Boy!

Little Drummer Boy: Lyrics

Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Matthew 2:11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: Gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come. Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Romans 3:21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,

Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
On my drum?

Romans 3:22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Christ to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;

Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

Romans 3:24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Okay. I'll admit it: there was no drummer boy in Luke, or any of the gospels. We made it up. I'm having flashbacks to that part in Shrek when Pinnochio is made real and he yells 'I'm a real boy!' and then turns back into a puppet. That's why we don't have a little kid on a drumset in our nativity sets. He might not have existed, but he might have. The Lord works in mysterious ways, and maybe He didn't reveal that for a reason. But His song is interesting, not just as a Christmas song.

It can double as a song of promising to serve and honor Jesus. "I have no gift to bring that's fit to give the King, I'll play my drum for Him, I'll play my best for Him." The boy wants to play the best he can and serve Jesus the best he can during the time He's near Jesus. This is what pure love is: he knew Jesus was the King, but right now, Jesus couldn't do much for him. But the boy wanted to serve Him anyway, just because He was the King.

In His Service,
Joyce
