1 Corinthians 15:33-34
Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits." Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.
"Evil company corrupts good habits". The people we hang out with corrupt our good habits and manners. The KJV says 'evil communications corrupt good manners' and the NIV and NLT say 'bad company corrupts good character'.
So the basic gist of these verses is that evil things will corrupt the good. But this doesn't mean don't spend time with people who don't know God. Jesus spent plenty of time with the 'sinners and the tax collectors'. So how do we know when their bad habits corrupt our Godly ones?
If you didn't swear before, when you start swearing. If you didn't do drugs before, when you do drugs (although that's a bit of a drastic change). Basically when you start doing what they're doing that's against God's Word, instead of the other way around. Don't sin, because some people don't know about God. They don't know God, they know us. We should be ashamed that people among us don't know God. What have we been doing all these days/months/years?
That doesn't mean go crazy and interrogate everyone you meet about God. It means that we're to be examples of God and Jesus in peoples' lives, so if they don't know who God is because we're taking all the credit for the good things in our lives, we should be ashamed.
So we're switching things up again, here on rocktalk951. Monday will still be Random Chapter Day, Tuesday will still be Bible Study, Wednesday will be switching between Obscure Biblical Character and Song Night, Thursday will be Encouragement Night, and Friday will be Salvation Day. I believe that this is God's Will at the moment. Let me know you have problems with the new arrangement (rocktalk951@gmail.com).
In His Service,
Joyce
