2 Chronicles 32:13-15
Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of other lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their lands out of my hand? Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed that could deliver his people from my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you from my hand? Now therefore, do not let Hezekiah deceive you or persuade you like this, and do not believe him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people from my hand or the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you from my hand?’”
This is the response to Hezekiah's encouragment that we looked at earlier on this week. Sennacherib gives this big speech, but this is the part we're focusing on today.
Sen's talking to the people of Judah, here. 'Don't you know what we've done to everybody else? Their gods didn't save them! No god could save his people from me, so why should your God? Don't believe Hezekiah, gods can't save you now.'
But as my friend's dad once said, "My God is gonna beat your gods' butt!". Not only does our God actually exist, He made us, not the other way around. These statues that people make can't save them; they are statues! So obviously, they will not save their peoples out of the hands of the Assyrians. Our God is not a statue.
Our God can save us, because our God did save us. He has that ability. Idols might not, and other people's gods might not. But Jesus saves. He is the Lord of all. He not only died, but He rose again. I think that our God save us from the hands of the Assyrians. (or could. Wait... there isn't a country called Assyria, anymore, is there? But there is an Israel. Hmm...)
When we face our challenges this year, someone may say to us, 'nobody else had the skills or talent or brains or strength or whatever to make them do this, so you won't be able to'. Our God is better than any of those things, and He gives us those things to serve Him with.

Do you think physical 'statue' idols are a big problem in our generation, or is it things that we don't think about as idols, such as money.
Or maybe you think idols aren't a problem, that other things like lying or stealing are much more prevalent in our generation?
