Genesis 15:1
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."
"Father, thank You for these words, and thank You for this day. These words that You spoke to Abram so long ago still apply to us, just like how all of Your Word still applies to us. In Jesus' Name, Amen."
So God says to Abram (soon to be Abraham) that he doesn't have to be afraid. Why doesn't Abram have to fear? Because God is his shield.
A shield is a protection or defense, often on a suit of armor. God protects us from the world, just like He protected Abram from the world.
Why else does Abram not have to be afraid? God is his exceedingly great reward. This applies to us a lot. When we stop ourselves from sinning, or don't do something God wants us to do, or follow God's Word, He is our reward. The world isn't going to reward us for breaking it's mold (usually). But God will.
God is our reward at the end of the road. Anything that happens to us on it, doesn't matter. At the end, God is our reward. Puts everything into perspective, doesn't it?

What's your favorite encouragment verse?
There are several, one that comes to mind is Phillipians 4:13, "I can do all things through him who strengthens me".
I like Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to his purpose."
