10 commandments

So my random chapter of the bible today is the 10 commandments, Exodus 20.

1. Thou shalt have no other Gods before me
2. Thou shalt create no graven images unto yourself
3. Thou shalt not take the Lord's name in vain
4. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy
5. Honor thy father and mother
6. Don't kill. (very obvious! :D)
7. You shalt not commit adultery
8. Thou shalt not steal
9. Do not bear false witness
10. Thou shalt not covet your neighbors wife.

So the first 2 are about putting God first in your life. God demands that once we believe in him that he is NUMBER 1! That means that we take time to remember him every day and give him everything.

Number 3 is very basic. It means no using God's name in a negative way. God is supreme over us and deserves every bit of respect we can give him. It's wrong to give him less than the best.

Number 4 doesn't necessarily mean NO WORKING ON SUNDAY! I think it means that we need to make sure that Sundays are put aside for God. We go to church and that's the extra time that God wants on Sundays. It doesn't mean we give any less on other days but Sundays ARE special.

Honor thy father and mother: basically that means GIVE YOUR PARENTS RESPECT! Even if they don't earn it. They gave you life...kinda. And they are above you.

Not gonna bother going over number 6....(NO JOYCE DON'T KILL THEM!)

Thou shalt not commit adultery does not only mean physically. It also means mentally. It means you need to committed to your husband/wife with all your heart. You don't go gawking after other men/women besides your husband/wife (unless they are beautiful celebrities! jkjkjkj)

Number 8 and 9 are very obvious. Don't lie or steal! Got it?

Number 10 is very important. It doesn't mean you actually want your neighbors wife. This law applies to everything. It means don't wish for something someone else has. You need to be happy with what you have.

I hope this study has made the 10 commandments a little clearer.

God in my heart and mind :D
