The End to Jonah Week (a week after it actually ended)

So the Obscure Biblical Character is… the captain of the ship Jonah took!

Jonah 1:6
“So the captain came to him, and said to him, “What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God; perhaps your God will consider us, so that we may not perish.”

Captain was covering all his bases. If every god and every idol was called on, then maybe they would be saved. But this time, he came to the right God.

The captain had to wake up Jonah to ask him, “What do we do? Ask your God!”. Then Jonah realized he screwed up, basically.

Sometimes it takes a non-Christian to show us what we’re doing wrong. It could be with a little comment like ‘you’re such a hypocrite’ or ‘this is un-Biblical, so why do you do it?’. Those little words make us remember that we’re what people see when they think of God. (Of course, we are hypocrites and un-Biblical, but that's the reason why Jesus died on the cross!)

Of course, sometimes those words are just said to be obnoxious, but other times they really are helpful.

So this next week’s character:
-led the mighty men for David
-worked, at least in this case, with his brother
-was very cooperative with his brother

In His Service,
Joyce
