Follow the Lord and face the consequences!

Psalm 27: 4-5
One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
And to inquire in His temple.

For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock

Have you ever played the game Sandman/Snowman? The 'snowmen' are safe as long as they are on something tall or far away enough so the sandman can't reach them. It's the only place they're safe in the game. Setting them high upon a rock keeps them safe.

How sweet are these verses? It's almost like an answer to the question "Why do you follow God?" Our main desire should be to follow and search for the Lord in everything that we do. But that's crazy! You could get into trouble with something like that!

Oh, wait, never mind. He'll hide us from dangers. Okay. Bringing up the obvious question: how much trouble can someone get in if God is protecting them? The answer: a lot less than if God was against them. Nothing is worse than the eternal punishment of Hell. So if Jesus died for us and we go to heaven because of Him, God is protecting and hiding us from the fire (and brimstone) of Hell. So the previous question in slightly different form is necessary: Why does He protect us? The answer: When we follow/believe in God, He is pleased to protect us and take us back in His arms.

Have you ever played hide and seek with someone really little? It's a little surprising that some of the youngest kids hide that well sometimes. I bet God is really good at hide and seek, partly because He knows everything and partly because He hides people to protect them. (Although now I just really want to see if that's true. Anybody else going to play hide and seek with me and Jesus in heaven?)

May this be a blessing to you and pleasing words to the Lord.
In His Service,
Joyce
